Boom Boom's New CD Is Coming

Tuff Love Release Parties at Applewood Grill & Neumann's • Sept. 18 & 26

Tuff Love CD
Tuff Love CD

It has been seven year's since the release of Boom Boom Steve V & the Knockouts' last CD, From The Shadows. That marvelous effort has left his fans, including me, anxiously anticipating the release of their new CD, Tuff Love. We'll still have to wait a couple of weeks, but Steve has provided the following information about the new CD: Tuff Love is a ten-track disc that features seven original tunes and three covers. The band consists of Steve Vonderharr on harp and vocals, John Franken on guitar, Dwight Dario on drums and John Schroder on bass. Minnesota and Iowa Blues Hall of Fame award-winner, Bruce McCabe, plays keyboard on six of the tracks. In addition, Jeremy Johnson plays second guitar on the two Little Walter cover-tunes that were recorded without bass, the same way Little Walter recorded the originals back in the 1950's with Louis Myers and Dave Myers on guitars. Mark "Good Time" Williams also adds background vocals.

Bruce McCabe will perform with the band at the first CD Release Party to be held at Applewood Rustic Grille in Burnsville (see the Map for venue locations) on Friday, September 18 beginning at 8 pm. The second date is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at Neumann's Bar in North St Paul beginning at 9 pm. These should be really fun nights and I can only imagine how supercharged the normally-energized Vondy is going to be.— Jake Jacobson

Papa John Kolstad & Hot Club of East Lake St

Hot Club of East Lake St

Saturday Nights at Merlin's Rest Pub

Merlin's Rest Pub on East Lake St has been around for a couple of years now featuring "FREE wi-fi, good food, tasty pints and one of the Cities' best whisky stocks". They also have music and Papa John Kolstad & the Hot Club of East Lake Street have locked down a regular Saturday night gig on the Pub stage starting at 9 pm. You can enjoy a traditional meal of Bangers & Mash, Guinness Stew or even choose from a surprisingly varied and interesting list of vegetarian entrees; ending with a Deep Dish Fruit Pie. Then sit back and enjoy the music. Merlin's Rest Pub is on the Map. —Jake Jacobson

Little Bobby's DVD Release Party

Night at the Empire DVD
A Night at the Empire DVD

At Sweet Paulie T's 60th Birthday Bash • MMC, Sept. 20

Sweet Paulie T has invited everybody to join him in celebrating his 60th birthday at Minnesota Music Cafe on Sunday, September 20 beginning at 12 pm. Music will be provided by Paulie's band, the Bluesblasters, Little Bobby & the Storm and Los Sneetches. Following the band performances there will be a jam session. There is no charge for this event but donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the pasta dinner that is being provided. In addition to Paulie's birthday, Little Bobby is celebrating the release of his DVD, A Night at the Empire. The DVD documents a live performance of Little Bobby & the Storm at the historic Empire Theater in Grand Forks, ND that took place on May 28, 2009. I have had an opportunity to preview the DVD and can tell you that it is very well done. Camera work, editing, sound and the performance itself are all first rate. And thanks, Bobby, for prominantly displaying the GTCBMS logo in your credits and on the cover! DVD's will be available for purchase at this event or online at http://shops.godaddy.com/Little-Bobby-and-the-Storm/Little-Bobby-The-Storm-A-Night-At-The-Empire-DVD/. — Jake Jacobson
