Twin Cities folk and blues great Paul Metsa has been putting together benefits for food shelves on a regular basis over the past decade (and has been dedicated to staging benefits for worthy causes throughout his long career). This weekend, he is gathering some of the best acoustic and folk talent in the state of Minnesota at South Minneapolis' newest musical hot spot, the Driftwood Char Bar. Food shelves, including the Northeast Senior Food Shelf, will benefit from the rock wail of Curtiss A (with the wonderful Gini Dodds), the intricate finger guitar work of Peter Lang, Metsa, some Liquor Pigs and Brass Kings and much more. — from Pat Courtemanche

Dunn Bros on Grand Features Blues
MN Barking Ducks • Last Wednesday of Month Through June
On Wednesday, March 25th, I had the pleasantly surprising opportunity to see an abbreviated version of the Fabulous Minnesota Barking Ducks, at Dunn Bros Coffee on Grand Ave., in St. Paul. Mic McCormick, Kit Kildahl, and Ed Dunn (one of the "Dunn Bros") entertained a full house with original blues, Jr. Wells, Bessie Smith, and Mose Allison, to name a few. Dunn Bros is located at 1569 Grand Ave., in St. Paul. (Grand and Snelling) See the Map. 651-698-0618 Dunn Bros. has various beverages, sandwiches, and desserts. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. This is a free gig. The Barking Ducks will be playing the last Wed. for the next three months. Next gig is April 29. Mi Casita moved from the mall in Forest Lake to this new location (formerly Prospects) in Scandia in the past year. The family run restaurant features authentic Mexican dishes including a particularly good Pork Chile Verde and Chiles Rellenos. Kurt Koehler and the Inside Straight Band will be helping the folks at Mi Casita celebrate Cinco De Mayo this Saturday, May 2. Mi Casita is on the Map. — Jake Jacobson
