Clint Hoover & East Side

Clint Hoover
Clint Hoover

At Hell's Kitchen, Aug. 6th, 7 pm

Over the years harp player, Clint Hoover, has collaborated with Bobby Ekstrand, Jim Chenoweth, the Sugar Kings and Papa John Kolstad. In 2007 Clint and Papa John represented Minnesota at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in the solo/duo competition. Now Clint is stretching-out with a new group, East Side. The description below emphasizes the jazzy aspect of the group, but Clint says there are plenty of blues influences present in the music, too. If you love Clint's harp, check out this group.

"East Side is the rather generic name of a group of four very unique jazz musicians from Minneapolis. Reynold Philipsek (guitar), Clint Hoover (harmonica), Matt Senjem (acoustic bass) and Michael Bissonnette (percussion) joined forces in the Fall of 2008 to forge their own brand of improvisational music which melds the diverse influences of Piazzolla and Miles through Ravel and Jobim where the melodic wistfulness of Europe and South America meet the pulse of truly American jazz. Their debut album entitled East Side contains all original music and will be released in April of 2009." — from Clint Hoover

Jeff Ray Joins Paul Mayasich

Tuesday, Aug. 4th at Hollihan's

Paul Mayasich continues to host his highly successful Tuesday Nights at Hollihan's Pub series. This week Paul's guest artist will be songwriter and slide guitarist, Jeff Ray. I saw Jeff with "Hurricane" Harold Tremblay (Cool Disposition) and Mikkel Beckmann (Brass Kings) at the Deep Blues Festival a couple of weeks ago. They were definitely one of my favorites acts at the festival. I can only imagine how great Jeff and Paul will sound together. Music starts at 7:30 pm. Hollihan's is on the Map. — Jake Jacobson

For those of you who attended the Blues Society's Annual Picnic a couple weeks ago, you know what a great singer and guitar player Steve Blexrud is. This Saturday, July 25 beginning at 9 pm, Steve will be appearing at the Bayside Grille on Lake Minnetonka with his band, Thunderheads. Rounding out the month of July, Steve will be appearing as a solo act at Brit's Pub on July 26, 1-3 pm and again at Bayside Grille on July 26 from 5-9 pm. The following Friday, July 31, Steve will appear with Bill Godin on keyboard at Mad Jack's in Brooklyn Park beginning at 9 pm. Check the Map for venue locations.— Jake Jacobson
