Hat Trick Lounge Goes Deep Blues

Chris Cotton
Chris Cotton

Chris Cotton Plays Friday, July 18

Piedmont style picking from a talented singer who has been compared to legends like Leadbelly, and Tom Waits, though his approach also gives a nod to Blind Willie McTell. Chris doesn't put any labels on his music, saying "Call it whatever the hell you want, just don't call it the blues." He is returning to the Deep Blues Festival after a headline appearance last year, and has just released his 4th CD, entitled The Big Sea. This is your chance to hear Chris Cotton in the intimate setting of the Hat Trick music room.

RightOn John will open. RightOn John is a one-man band from Portland, OR, who plays guitar, drums, stompbox, harmonica, fiddle, and more. www.myspace.com/rightonjohn

Ted's Bar Adds Blues

Bros. Curtis Kick-Off First Saturday Gigs

Beginning June 7th, Ted's Bar the venerable little establishment located near the southeast corner of Lexington and Larpenteur Avenue in St Paul will begin hosting blues the first Saturday of each month. Music will be from 8 to 12 pm. Kicking-off this blues experiment for Ted's will be the Brothers Curtis.

The trend these days seems to be for venues to drop blues music in favor of something else or no music at all. It's good to add a new venue to the list from time to time. You can help keep the blues alive by supporting the venues that support the blues! For a map to Ted's please consult The Blues Venue Map. Ted's is located at:
1084 Larpenteur Ave W (Next to Flowerama)
St Paul, MN

T. Albert Lloyd Band

High-Energy Blues with Taste of SRV

Every once in a while it is refreshing to see and hear a band that plays the blues in a little different style and a little different format than what we've grown accustomed to. The T. Albert Lloyd Band is just that sort of band. Performing in a "Power Trio" format the band consists of T. Albert Lloyd on guitar, Al Pettis bass and Adam Carlson on drums.

The influence of Texas bluesmen like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Johnny Winter is clear in the band's repertoire but by no means limiting in the range of music that they play. There is also a strong "funk" undercurrent and sometimes even a little "jazz" running through their music. For a taste of T's range check out his YouTube clip of "Summertime" and next time you are out-and-about add the T. Albert Lloyd Band to your repertoire.
