Whiskey Junction Re-Opens With Live Blues Music

Curtis & the Kicks Kick-Off Party

by Mary Faith Marshall

HOT-HOT-HOT! Whiskey Junction's rebirth by fire, that is —fueled by the Bourbon laced blues, (Kentucky style) of Curtis and the Kicks. The music community was out in force for the conflagration on Saturday, March 31, 2007 as the Kicks fired up a packed house.

Big John Dickerson, Jimmy "Prime Time" Smith, Charles André aka "Chacko", Jacquie "Lady J" Maddix and other tunesters helped flame a sublimely sizzling groove on stage, and the mix was pure pyro.

Curtis Marlatt with his band (David Wiegert, keyboards; Anthony Scott, bass; Donald "High Pockets" Robinson, drums; and Greg "Pee Wee Diamond" Fagan, saxophone) decanted some hickory-smoked delights—"Chicken Shack", "I'll Play the Blues for You", and "Walking the Back Streets" and "Crying". Special treats included the Marlatt orginal, "It's You That's Got to Go", and a soulful duet by Big John and Chacko on "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby". Don't miss the next pour!!
