CURTIS2 PARTY

It threatened rain outdoors but no one seemed to mind. Almost 100 people crowded into the Traingle Bar for this event and everyone who came brought sunshine with them. Back in 2003, Fred Conti, Jr. adopted Curtis Blake and Curtis Marlett and that is when the plans began for this event. As we normally do, we put photo boards and profile books on display. Door prizes were given, including a Borthers Curtis CD and a signed Blake harmonica. The guest book was circulated for signatures. The dance floor was "all feet." Pee Wee joined the Brothers Curtis Band and they played with abandon. All the music jammers followed suit!

We extend a gigantic thank you to our hosts, Wade and Sue, for providing so much food for this shindig. And a big thanks to Curtis for making his renowned gumbo for the occassion! Profiles of the two "with first name of Curtis" will appear on our website in the near future. Tom was present with camera equipment and he also made available a video for showing that featured blues greats William Clarke, Sonny Rodgers, Mojo Buford, R. J. Mischo, Charles Lawson, Curtis Blake and others. All the information we collect in preparation for these events will be archived. Some of the information will find its way to the public libraries and history center.

Other video shows at the party featured Blake playing at the Chicago Blues Festival and Marlatt playing in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Society is also making plans for the International Blues Contest (IBC) to be held in Memphis early February, 2004. We want to sponsor a local musician(s) in the solo/duo category at the 2004 IBC, so we have started the plans to schedule a music recital for next year. We will select the 2004 contestant(s) from the participants at the recital. Stay tuned for more on this! If you play acoustic blues and you think this might interest you, please contact the GTCBMS.
