Welcome To The Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame
History
In 2006, The Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society solicited nominations from the public at large for the Inaugural Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame. The nominations were in the following categories: Blues Performer, Non-Performer Supportive of the Blues, Blues Recording, Blues Song and Blues Literature. These nominations were then placed on a ballot and voted upon by the members of the Society. The first Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony was held at The Junction (Whiskey Junction) in Minneapolis in late October of 2007. The event was by all accounts a smashing success. The 2007 inductees into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame were: Mojo Buford; Aces, Straights and Shuffles; Tony Glover; KFAI Community Radio and Bruce McCabe. Please see the menu at the left for more information about each year's inductees.
In 2008, the Ceremony was held at the Eagles' Club in Minneapolis and the 2009 event was held at Famous Dave's in Calhoun Square. For details on the inductees and ceremonies please refer to the menu on the left.
A Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame Election Policy was written in 2009 to refine the rules and proceedures governing the Hall of Fame. A Nominations Committee was established to oversee the election process. Each year the Nominations Committee will review the Election Policy and make recommendations to the Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society Board of Directors.
Criteria for Selection
The MN Blues Hall of Fame is a historical record of those who have made the Blues timeless through performance, documentation, recording and sponsoring. The Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society will induct new members annually into the Blues Hall of Fame for their historical contribution, impact and overall influence on the Blues in Minnesota.
In 2009 the nomination and voting process for the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame was reviewed and an "Election Policy" was adopted by the GTCBMS Board of Directors to govern those processes. The specific criteria for candidates are listed in this policy.
