This year's Road to Memphis for Solo/Duo Acts was held at the Viking Bar Sunday afternoon, October 23rd. A total of three acts performed for the three volunteers who judged the event and selected the winner. The three judges were Tom Asp, David Holmgren and Dan Schwalbe. Kathy Schwalbe was our timekeeper and scorekeeper. Thanks to the Schwalbes for agreeing to help out on such short notice!

Our three acts included Burton & Babbitt, Glen Bowen, and Andy "Cadillac" Kolstad.

Burton & Babbitt played variations on many covers, providing the audience with samples of post-war blues artists, including our Lazy Bill Lucas. The act also included some originals with Steve Babbitt on guitar/vocals and Gary Burton on harmonica.

Glen Bowen treated the audience to a playlist of originals and his lyrics covered the spectrum from serious to funloving and from hardtime blues to celebration blues. Glen's solo appearance, playing harp/vocals was a more unique approach to entertainment for modern times but not so unusual if one reaches back to early, backwood blues styles (such as DeFord Bailey).

Andy "Cadillac" Kolstad came to the event all slicked-up for the show. He played a variety of covers and originals on his keyboard and infused humor both in his lyrics and his bantering with his audience.
