2008 Minnesota Entrants in the International Blues Challenge

It's hard to believe that in his 80 years James Samuel "Cornbread" Harris had never been to Memphis, TN. As the Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society's "solo" act for the 2008 IBC Cornbread had a chance to introduce Beale St. to his distinctive keyboard stylings and personable banter. Cornbread performed at Pat O' Briens on Beale St. for the semi-final rounds of this year's competition on Thursday and Friday nights, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Cadillac Kolstad & the Flats brought their energetic brand of blues, Minneapolis' West Bank, dance and (apropos to Memphis) rock-a-billy sound to the Blues City Cafe on Beale St. From the reports I've heard, the trio comprised of Andrew "Cadillac" Kolstad on keyboards, Johann Swenson on stand-up snare and hi-hat and Chad "Auggie" Augustin on doghouse bass played very good sets both nights of the competition.
