The Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society held an open meeting for all members and interested parties at the Minnesota Music Cafe on Monday, October 1st at 7:00 pm.

The main topic for discussion was "We need volunteers!" and what sorts of things are available for persons interested in becoming more active in the Society. We are specifically looking for writers, photographers and people with some knowledge of marketing. But anyone can help with things as simple as passing out information about the Society at music events or helping to put labels on envelopes for mailings.

Following the meeting members were entertained by the Lisa Wenger Band featuring Lisa on vocals, Jason Medeiros on guitar and vocals, Matt Kassanchuk on keyboards, Jeremy Johnson on drums, Phil Schmid on guitar and Bill Black on bass. Some members even got a chance to join in the jam.

If you have any interest at all in becoming more involved with the Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society, please contact us at: gtcbms@att.net Or just talk to somebody at the next event you attend. It's a great way to meet new people who share a common interest in music.

Winton, the location of the Boundary Waters Blues Festival, is just a short four miles east of Ely. Fans can camp adjacent to the festival grounds or stay at nearby lodges and hotels. The festival begins on a Thursday night and ends Saturday, giving the urbanites plenty of time Sunday for the drive back to the metro. The festival takes place on the shores of Fall Lake with small town friendliness abounding. The festival is against a backdrop of spectacular vistas. The festival features many musicians from this region as well as national acts.

This year's homegrown talent at the Boundary Waters Festival included Both Barrels, Scottie Miller & the Re-Uptake Inhibitors, Reverend Raven & the Chain Smokin' Altar Boys, Lis Wenger and Paul Mayasich with Benderheads. The Blues Society had a meet and greet table at the festival and enjoyed meeting many blues fans from upnorth. Next year's festival is scheduled for August 21-23rd and the Society will be there again with our "Meet and Greet" display.

Perfect Day for Members Appreciation Picnic

Good Food, Good Music, Good Friends

Rene and Charlie
Rena Haus
and Charlie Lawson

We couldn't have asked for a better day to hold our annual Members Appreciation Picnic than the one we had on July 15th. Host and Chef, Lynn Kelly did a terrific job with the food and setting for a mellow backyard gathering.

Scottie Graves

Music was provided by Scottie Graves, Rene Haus, Scottie Miller and Detroit Don King with Curtis Marlatt, Harold Tremblay and Charlie Lawson sitting in at various points throughout the afternoon.

All in all, everything came together just right to once again make this event one of the Greater Twin Cities Blues Society's seasonal highlights.
