Boundary Waters Blues Fest Fund Raiser

Friday, February 25 @ Sawmill Inn, Grand Rapids, MN

Boundary Waters Blues Fest is holding a fund raiser at the Sawmill Inn and Conventions Center in Grand Rapids, MN beginning at 7 pm on Friday, February 25. The event will feature music by Kevin Burt and Ken Valdez along with members of the Grand Rapids High School Jazz Band as the culmination of a week long "Blues In The Schools" program. A $10 donation at the door will benefit the 2011 Boundary Waters Blues Fest to be held on June 23-25. Performers for the June festival will be announced at the fund raiser. — Jake Jacobson

Yup, they're doing it again! The organizers of the Hambone Blues Jam Music Festival are holding a benefit show at the LaQuinta Inn in Rochester this Saturday, February 12 from 5:30 pm to 12:30 am. Featured artists include Kris Lager Band, Curtis Marlatt & the Kicks, Scottie Miller and more. A suggested $10 donation will be collected at the door and there will be a silent auction. Hambone Blues Jam Music Festival is a non-profit, 100% volunteer run event who donates funds to the History Center of Olmsted County, and to area public school music programs. A Benefit for the Cornbread Harris Documentary Film

Minneapolis film producer, Thomas Zocher, is trying to complete his documentary film, Man, Blues and God, The Life of "Cornbread" Harris. This Sunday, February 13, a "A Night of Blues" fund raiser will be held at Wilebski's Blues Saloon for the purpose of financing the film. There will be musical performances by Bobby Vandell, DeMonica Flye (of High Definition), Amber Anne Love and Kaytee Shay, along with special guests. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Tickets are $15 in advance from www.vitalculture.com or at the Blues Saloon. Tickets are $25 at the door. Doors open a 6:30 pm. Cornbread Harris has recently be released from the hospital where he had an extended recovery following eye surgery. We all wish him well. — from Melody Jacobson

Javier and the Innocent Sons

At Home In Hell's Kitchen In A Busy February

Javier & the Innocent Sons (formerly HUD) have three upcoming gigs at Hell's Kitchen on Thursday, January 27, Sunday, February 6 and Saturday, February 19. The band is led by Javier Matos on vocals, guitar and harmonica along with Grant Wibben on bass and Page Burkum on drums and vocals. If you have not done so already, you should check out their CD, Lost in Loretto. Frequent guest artists include Dan Schwalbe, Hurricane Harold Tremblay, Jimmy Wallace and Alex "Crankshaft" Larson. The Innocent Sons will also be appearing at Washington Square on February 12, River City Saloon on February 14, 331 Club on February 23 and Shaw's Bar & Grill on February 26.
