Koerner & Glover Wednesdays @ 400 Bar
Series Begins January 5, 8 pm
The 400 Bar has been a fixture in the West Bank neighborhood for a long time. Fans of the establishment characterize it as a "music club", while detractors consider it to be an overpriced dive bar. No matter what you may think about the 400 Bar, a really wonderful thing is about to happen there. Beginning Wednesday, January 5, 'Spider' John Koerner and Tony 'Little Sun' Glover will renew a musical collaboration that began almost four decades ago along with the late, Dave 'Snaker' Ray. Glover was honored in the inaugural 2007 Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame for his book, Blues Harp, and again in 2008 along with Koerner and Ray for their recording, Blues, Rags and Hollers. For those of you have never seen Koerner and Glover perform together, Wednesday nights at the 400 Bar should afford you ample opportunities to acquaint yourself with their music. Cover $5 in advance, $8 at the door. Doors open at 7 pm. Music begins at 8 pm. The 400 Bar is located at 400 Cedar Ave and is on our Blues Venue Map.— Jake Jacobson

Curtis Marlatt & Kicks Trio Jam @ Doc's Landing
New Addition To the Wednesday Night Jam Sessions
Curtis Marlatt
The latest entry in the Wednesday Night Jam Session Sweepstakes is Doc's Landing in White Bear Lake just north of I694 on White Bear Avenue "kitty-corner" from the Maplewood Mall acreage (see our Blues Venue Map). Beginning Wednesday, January 5, from 9 pm - 12:30 am, Curtis Marlatt & the Kicks Trio will host an "Open Stage"-jam with all musicians invited to paticipate. Food, beverages and a large dance floor are among the amenities offered.
Meanwhile, Wilebski's Blues Saloon has embarked on a twelve-week "Build-A-Band" jam hosted by Tim O'Brien which will culminate in the assemblage of three bands that will then compete in a "Battle of the Bands" to determine the ultimate winner. The competition is broken down by instrument: harmonica, guitar, bass, drums and horns. Each instrument runs for two Wednesday nights. This Wednesday, January 5th, is the second week of the "drum" competition. The carrot-on-a-stick for each band is the opportunity to have a slot on the bill with a national act on a Friday or Saturday night at the Blues Saloon. If you don't understand this, contact Wilebksi's Blues Saloon for an explanation: 651-331-0929.
Finally, Willie Murphy's Blues Jam is still going strong every Wednesday night at The Driftwood Char Bar on Nicollet Ave in Minneapolis from 7 pm "'til it's over!". So, if you are looking for a jam on Hump Day, there are a few options out there. — Jake Jacobson
